The Lawrence County 4-H program is having our annual 4-H cook-off and this is open to all 4-H members, regardless of what club you are in as long as you like to cook and eat. 4-H members will enter a prepared dish and a copy of their recipe for judging. Winners will receive rosettes and awards and all recipes will be printed in a special 4-H Cook-off recipe booklet. And, everyone at the cook-off will have the chance to taste all of the goodies! The 4-H cook-off promises to be a fun and yummy 4-H event. Hope to see you there!

Rules

  1. The following categories of prepared dishes and recipes will be judged in each of two age divisions. Categories are: Appetizers-Snacks, Breads, Casseroles, Salads, Chili, Cakes, Cookies, Pies and Pastries, other Desserts and Candy.

  2. Each 4-H member may enter recipes and prepared dishes in a maximum of three categories. If entered in previous 4-H Cook-off, you must enter new recipes, not the same or adapted recipe.

  3. Individuals entering will bring a prepared dish and the recipe for the dish. All recipes must list all ingredients (including amounts) and accurate step-by-step mixing and cooking instructions. All except last minute preparation should be completed prior to bringing the dish (recipe needs to include frosting, sauces and toppings) to the Cook-off as no cooking facilities will be provided.

  4. All entries will be judged by professional judges. Judging will be based on the recipe (complete, precise, neatly presented) and the prepared dish (recipe followed, tasty, good color and texture, nutritious, neatly presented).

  5. Judges will select a winner in each category within each age division. Winners will receive awards. A Best-of-Division winner will be selected from among the award winners in each division.

  6. All participants, parents and on-observers will be given the opportunity to taste the goodies and vote for their favorites. Tasters must pay $1.00 for the privilege. Special awards will be given to the winners of the popular voting.

  7. The age divisions are as follows: Junior Division: 4-H members 8-10 years old, Intermediate 11 - 13 years old and Senior Division: 4-H members 14 years and older.
